Detroit stops the Hornets’ streak in a high-tension duel

That, unfortunately, is what will remain first in this duel between Charlotte and Detroit. Two castagnas, four suspensions, then the Hornets coach, who witnessed the end of his team’s series from the locker room, defeated by Cade Cunningham’s men (33 points, 7 assists).
Despite a rough start, Charlotte was able to get ahead thanks to an enterprising Brandon Miller and 2/2 from distance for Conn Knuepel and then Grant Williams to create the first deficit at the start of the second quarter (36-29). The Hornets used their outside skills to align 9/10 and kept their advantage thanks to the Ball-Mann-Miller triple, still at 3 points (55-47).
Detroit blew the whistle at halftime by going on a 14-2 run in three minutes, and Jalen Duren was already omnipresent when he had 4/4 or two assists for Duncan Robinson (57-61).
Detroit strong until the end
The Pistons went on to score 7 points on the restart before being ejected for a foul on Moussa Diabate (62-70).
In turn, Detroit led the game in a tense atmosphere, relying on three-pointers by Paul Reed and Duncan Robinson, then two consecutive baskets by Cade Cunningham to reach a 16-length lead (72-88).
Charlotte attempted two comebacks, and eventually saw the day after two 3-pointers by Conn Knuepel and a layup by LaMelo Ball, despite the suspension of Charles Lee for a bloody attack on the court (96-102).
Brandon Miller’s four points turned up the heat, but Tobias Harris made sure to calm things down in the low post in isolation, sanctioning two open 3-point shots that Brandon Miller and Conn Knuepel missed (100-106). Enough to secure the win, sealed by Cade Cunningham’s two final throws to stop the Hornets’ streak (104-110).
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– End of the streak for the Hornets. Charlotte stops at nine wins in a row and that’s already a very good performance for a team that is finally starting to reveal its talents, and managed to challenge Detroit in the eyes throughout the meeting. You had to go back 27 years to find such a streak in franchise history.
– Tension to the maximum, two confusions and the expelled coach! The situation was on the verge of disaster when Moussa Diabate and Jalen Duren collided early in the third quarter. The Pistons constantly provoked the Frenchman who finally answered, and it took a lot of officials and assistants to separate them. Miles Bridges then got involved by being aggressive with Jalen Duren, and Isaiah Stewart apparently then joined in the debates.
– Cade Cunningham adamant. Another boss match for the Pistons leader, who survived the tough times and was able to score important baskets in the second half to secure the victory.
