All-Star game in Los Angeles, stepping stone to 2028 Olympics for Cade Cunningham
Cade Cunningham will play its second consecutive All-Star game, and this one has a special touch: the mini-tournament is played in the Intuit Dome, the hall that will also host the men’s Olympic tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. A symbol that leads Clips has long been a sticking point in his career plan.
“The All-Star Game in LA was part of the plan”, he explains to Andscape. “I wanted to make sure I was there. And then to win the title and be the Olympic leader. It’s all part of the long-term plan.”
This projection towards Team USA doesn’t come out of nowhere. Cade Cunningham has already had a taste of the US selection: a “sparring partner” before the 2023 World Cup joined the “Select Team”, which he used as a training team to push the players to their limits. At the time, it was even aligned with certain missions – to the “interpretation” of Luka Dončić in training — and he left an impression.
It must be said that Cade Cunningham, the leader of the best team in the Major League (40 wins – 13 losses), had a very complete season with 25.3 points, 9.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals on average in 46 games. Enough to guarantee him a place in two years, if he maintains his level of play and avoids injuries.
“He is a 1m98 leader who dominates in all offensive areas” describes his coach, JB Bickerstaff. “But we don’t talk enough about his defense, his desire to go up against the opposition’s best player. To me, the impact he has on this side of the court as well, that makes him one of the top five two-way players in the league.”
