Kendrick Perkins makes a questionable statement about Steph Curry’s championship
The The Golden State Warriors fell to 29-27 after a 121-110 loss to the Boston Celtics. on Thursday night, and former NBA center Kendrick Perkins believes the defeat underscores a larger reality: the championship window with Stephen Curry can be closed.
Perkins shared his stance during Friday’s First Take broadcast, claiming that Golden State’s inability to make a major roster upgrade has virtually ended his title aspirations.
“The days when Steph Curry actually had a chance to win another championship in Golden State, those days are gone. The only hope he had was to be aggressive and try to get Giannis Antetokounmpo, and from what I understand, the Bucks didn’t want any part in what they were trying to offer. Because I heard they were trying to get Draymond Green in a deal that probably said the whole deal was good.” those kinds of dollars.”
Perkins continued by questioning the flow of the team rostering and future flexibility.
“So when you think about where they are and what they’re going to be in the market to go and get — we don’t know with Jimmy Butler and how his age is going to come back to us after his ACL injury. Draymond Green is done when it comes down to being a guy that can give you real production, especially with the dollars he’s making … at an all-time high.”

Kendrick Perkins ties Warriors’ title concerns to injuries, Western Conference

Perkins later emphasized the competitiveness of the Western Conference.
“Which guys (are) going to be free that you can pair up with Steph that’s going to actually move the needle? Because I’m saying this: SGA, he’s not going anywhere, Anthony Edwards is not going anywhere, Wemby, Jokic, all these guys, Luka, they’re still in the Western Conference. So, they can’t watch him right now for Giannis to go around getting plays for him. To the state.
Questions about Golden State’s roster intensified Jimmy Butler III’s torn ACL suffered last month, an injury that clouded the team’s short-term outlook. Butler is viewed internally as a key veteran piece capable of providing postseason experience and a two-way impact upon his return next season.
Curry, 37, continues to deliver at a high level despite the team’s inconsistent results. He is averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.1% from three in 39 appearances. However, Curry has been sidelined since Jan. 30 after suffering a persistent right knee injury during a 131-124 loss to the Detroit Pistons. The Warriors announced that he will be re-evaluated in 10 days.
At the trade deadline, Golden State made a significant move acquiring Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Cummings and Buddy Hieldsignaling a willingness to recalibrate the roster. Even with the addition, the Warriors remain eighth in the Western Conference standings.
Golden State will wrap up a four-game homestand against the Denver Nuggets (35-21) on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 PM PT on ABC. Whether Perkins’ statement proves premature or prophetic will depend on how a responsive roster reacts once Curry returns and the postseason picture crystallizes.
