Anthony Edwards ‘all out of whack’ after loss to 76ers

The The Minnesota Timberwolves couldn’t overcome it challenges of playing without their top players in the frontcourt on Sunday.

With the center Rudy Gobert is serving a one-game suspension and forward Naz Reid off before the game due to a shoulder problem, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch had to make some unusual lineup moves that drew quite a reaction by star keeper Anthony Edwards.

“We were all off today. We had Slim at the 5, Julius at the 5 sometimes. I was at the 4. Today was crazy,” Edwards said after the game, per John Krawczynski of the Athletics.

The 76ers dominated Minnesota from start to finish, and even led by as many as 29 points. Philadelphia was without big man Joel Embiid due to soreness in his right calf, but the Sixers didn’t have much trouble getting on the court.

The 76ers scored 26 more goals than Minnesota and scored 21 points less than the Timberwolves’ 21 turnovers. Furthermore, the Sixers shot 52 percent from the floor and hit 21 3-pointers with a 57 percent success rate.

Tirese McKay and VJ Edgecombe led the way for Philly, scoring 39 and 24 points, respectively, while combining for 10-for-14 shooting from behind the arc.

Meanwhile, Edwards scored 28 points on 11-for-19 shooting, but he repeatedly shot the Timberwolves in the foot with turnovers, as he committed seven of them. He may have been thrown out of his rhythm at times while playing an unfamiliar position on the field, not on purpose but out of necessity.

Looking ahead, Edwards and the Timberwolves will begin a three-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers next Tuesday.
