Darius Garland talks about his Clippers debut
From January 15 Darius Garland he never set foot on the NBA floor again. This toe is to blame, which has been bothering him for several months, even a year. A month and a half later, there he is again on the field, and there is a change. First, he no longer plays for the Cavaliers, but to the Clippers. So, here he is off the bench for this recovery at the Chase Center.
“You (Lue) told me: ‘Boy, you’re going to come off the bench.’ And I answered: ‘No worries'”says the All-Star point guard. “I want to fit in, I didn’t want to disrupt what we had in place, especially since we’ve been on a good little run. So I came off the bench, and it was a little weird at first … I told him it felt weird. But once the match started, it was cool.”
First, three turnovers in five possessions, and overall a bad first half. And then, like his partners, Darius Garland came to his senses, found his basketball, to finish with 12 points on 4 of 9 shooting. And above all victory against a direct opponentGolden State.
I’m looking forward to playing with Kris Dunn
“That was probably after my first triple. The one on the left… That’s when I said to myself: ‘OK, I removed some rust’ » he continues. “But in the second half, it really started to happen. Chris (Dunn) came in, had a couple of interceptions. Jordan (Miller), Janic (Conan Niederhauser) did their best. Kawhi did Kawhi, obviously. . . .”
And what Darius Garland was really interested in playing with Chris Dunn, they had to wait until the second period. The two will form the backcourt for the Clippers, and there is already some complicity.
“It was good, just being on the field with ‘big brother’. It felt natural because I’m used to having another leader with me on the field.” concludes Darius Garland. “KD, he’s an animal, he’s got a real nose for the ball. He had two huge tackles in the second half that really got us going, offensively and defensively. We raised our voices here. He also made a huge 3-pointer in the corner that really changed the game… With KD next to me, I have real confidence.”
