A win over the Mavericks accomplishes a feat not seen since 2023
After a nightmare start to the 2025-26 season, there is hope growing by the day for the young pelican from New Orleanss. Their young core is flying under interim head coach James Borrego, and they are filling the win column in a hurry. The Pelicans won another game on Monday night, beating the Dallas Mavericks 119-113 thanks to a well-rounded team effort led by Zion Williamson’s 24 points.
This victory marking the Pelicans’ fifth straightwhich is quite a feat considering how bleak everything looked for New Orleans to start the campaign. They were better than their 8-22 record would suggest, especially when you consider that they were in several close games that ended in losses.
In fact, the Pelicans’ five-game winning streak is the second-longest active streak in the league, and it’s the first time they’ve won five consecutive games since 2023. pointed out via the official ClutchPoints account on X (formerly Twitter).
Everything is humming for the Pelicans, and it sure looks like everyone has bought into Borrego’s system. They will look to continue their winning streak tomorrow night when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7:30 PM ET
Pelicans’ youth movement is paying off

The Pelicans went all-in on the youth movement, handing the starting guard and center reins to Jeremiah Fears and Derrick Queen, respectively, and they showed every night what made them such attractive starting prospects.
Williamson has come off the bench since returning from an adductor injury, and suffice it to say, he has thrived in his new role. Jordan Poole is back with his microwave scoring ways. Trey Murphy embraces his role as the go-to guy on the wing while being a disruptive defensive force. Sadiq Bey was exceptional.
The Pelicans may be without their 2026 first-round pick, but they may not finish in the top five or even 10 if this play continues.
