With the Suns leading 104-102 with 1:14 left, Ziaire Williams and Brooks tied the game while battling for a turnover. As the jump ball was called, Brooks continued to pull the ball, leading Demin to push him away Williams, who was on the ground.

Royce O’Neal, Grayson Allen and other Suns players came to Brooks’ defense. Michael Porter Jr. and Terence Mann stepped in for Brooklyn, as a handful of assistant coaches on each side rushed to break up the altercation.

Demin, Mann and Porter, who shoved Suns assistant Demarre Carroll during the melee, received technicals for Brooklyn. O’Neill and Allen received technical data for the Phoenix.

โ€œI just had to get it off Ziaire,โ€ Demin said of the Brooks push. “It was a dead ball and the whistle was already gone. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody or even start a fight. I walked right out because I’m not trying to fight anybody. That’s not what I’m basically doing. But I’ve got to make sure our guys are protected. We should just go out and fight for each other. That’s what I wanted to take away.

Brooks committed a flagrant foul for hitting Nic Clacton below the belt in the first quarter. He was also assessed a technical for shoving Demin after a loose ball foul in the second quarter.

Williams was injured after being hit by a member of the Suns who ran to break up the fight. Nets coach Jordi Fernandez gave his opinion on the situation after the game.

“It’s just guys protecting each other and fighting for each other,” Fernandez said. “I think they did a great job. You’re not going to let any of your teammates get hit or shoved or anything. Obviously there are boundaries and we don’t want anybody to get hurt, but you saw some dirty plays. They called it or they didn’t. At the end of the day, I think it got out of hand because of that. But I love each other for that.”

“(Ziaire) is hurt. We don’t know what exactly right now. It was a member of the other team that ran in to break the right and he ran into him and hurt him. Obviously, it wasn’t intentional, but you have to be careful with those things. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see how long it is. Hopefully it won’t be long.”

Brooks has been in the middle of many fights during his career. The Suns forward’s technical foul on Tuesday marked his 15th of the season, the most in the NBA. He is now one technical away from a one-game suspension.
