Anthony Davis returns from groin injury against 76ers

The The Dallas Mavericks have been up and down recently, gave up a tough running contest against the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this week. The Mavericks were without Anthony Davis for the last few games after injuring his groin in last week’s Christmas Day loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Fortunately, on Wednesday, the team won positive injury update on Davis’ status for Thursday’s New Year’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

“Mavs coach Jason Kidd said Anthony Davis will play about 30-34 minutes tomorrow against the 76ers. Davis has missed the last two games with a groin injury,” reported Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Mavs on X, formerly Twitter.

The Davis news comes amid massive trade speculation swirling around the Mavericks in recent days, with the Atlanta Hawks being circled as a potential team that could have interest in trading for Davis’ services.

The Mavericks are currently 12-22 on the year, well below where they thought they would be at this point in the season, even with Kyrie Irving yet to return from his torn ACL from last year.

The good news for the Mavericks is that rookie No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg has been playing great basketball in recent weeks, currently in the driver’s seat for the Rookie of the Year award, which could help motivate talk of a potential trade for Davis.

Either way, the Mavericks and 76ers will tip off on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET from Dallas.
