Anthony Davis will take a big step toward returning from injury before the Lakers game

The The struggles of the Dallas Mavericks for the 2025-26 season opener continued Monday night with a narrow road loss against the Miami Heat. The Mavericks are now 5-14 on the campaign and had to play most of the last month without Anthony Daviswho is out of the squad due to injury.

However, on Tuesday, the team finally won positive update regarding Davis’ future status.

“Mavericks’ Anthony Davis is scheduled to practice Wednesday in an attempt to clear for his first game since Oct. 29. Dallas plays the Lakers Friday night in Los Angeles, then the Clippers on Saturday,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on X, formerly Twitter.

“He’s working to get back,” head coach Jason Kidd said.

The Mavericks would certainly love to have Davis back in the lineup for at least one of these upcoming games in Los Angeles, though it would seem unlikely that he would play both sides of the back-to-back due to injury, especially at his age.

Still, Davis should allow the Mavericks to be at least somewhat competitive again, if not a legitimate contender, when he returns to the lineup, and he’ll also help take some of the pressure off No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg to create offense.

With Kyrie Irving also back in contention, Dallas could finally have a legitimate team on their hands.

Either way, the Mavericks and Lakers will square off on Friday at 10:00 PM ET.
