Atlanta lands former Wizards young player in latest move

The Atlanta Hawks essentially hit the reset button when they traded franchise cornerstone Trae Young to the Washington Wizards at the deadline. It is clear that they plan to build around their youth, such as rising star Jaylen Johnson. And their second deadline day trade for Jonathan Cumminga solidifies their direction. The name of the game for the Hawks is to identify potential young talent, who they hope to do so with their signing of Keshawn Gilbert to a roster spot on a two-way contract, according to NBA insider Jake Fisher.

With the Hawks’ signing of Keshaun Gilbert, that fills all three two-way contract spots on their roster. The Hawks had an open spot after turning Caleb Houston’s two-way play into a standard deal. Gilbert joins Christian Kolok and Ray J. Dennis as two-way contract players for the Hawks.

Gilbert just signed with the Wizards as part of a 10-day deal. During that span, he appeared in three games averaging about 16 minutes per game. He averaged 2.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 50 percent from 2-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line.

His best game came in the first game with the Wizards, although he lost to the Brooklyn Nets. In just over 28 minutes, he finished with well-rounded statistics of four points, three rebounds, two assists and three blocks. He went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

After leaving undrafted in 2025 NBA draft, Gilbert joined the Wizards for training camp on a 10-year contract. He left before the start of the season and played for their G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go’s.
