Barry Sanders game among RB inspirations for Jeremy Love
Notre Dame football has one high-flying foul. This is due in part to the exploits of their dynamic running back Jeremy Love.
On Saturday, love he was asked on who he considers his most significant influence at the position, according to ESPN’s College GameDay. He listed Saquon Barkley, Jahmir Gibbs, and, most importantly, Barry Sanders.
Currently, Love has 988 yards and 13 touchdowns on 154 carries. Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman believes Love has potential to contend for the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame is ranked No. 9 in the country and has a 7-2 record against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The junior RB has 2,498 rushing yards, 388 carries and 31 touchdowns so far. Overall, Love is known for his explosive running style and ability to leave defenders in the dust. Plus, Love can pull off some slick spin moves to escape defensive pressure.
Last year, Notre Dame finished the season 14-2 and made it all the way to the national championship game.
After all, the Fighting Irish lost to Ohio State 34-23.
How Barry Sanders established the template for Jeremiah Love at Notre Dame
From Oklahoma State to Detroit LionsSanders was the premier quarterback of his era. In 1988, Sanders won the Heisman Trophy while at Oklahoma State and set all kinds of records in the process.
He totaled 15,269 rushing yards, 99 rushing touchdowns and 2,921 receiving yards during his time in the NFL.
In addition, Sanders was a 10-time Pro Bowl MVP, in 1997 in the NFL, and has the most consecutive 100-yard games with 14.
He was equally known for his explosive and dynamic style. In that sense, he exemplified that approach long before Love was born.
More than that, Sanders was known for his remarkable humility, which led him to retire in his early 30s as he came close to surpassing Walter Payton.
