Brooks Koepka’s heartfelt tribute at a fan reception amid his return to the PGA Tour

After leaving the LIV Tour and returning to the PGA, Brooks Koepka he wasn’t sure what kind of reaction he would get from players, fans and officials. He is competing in the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla, Calif., and told interviewers that the comeback is going better than he expected.

The reaction from his fellow contestants and fans made him feel welcome again. Koepka was seemingly immune to peer criticism and fan disapproval in his first round at the PGA Tourbut that is apparently no longer the case. He knows that his initial decision to leave the PGA Tour for the riches of the LIV Tour upset several of his fellow tour pros, and the fan reaction was not favorable either.

As a result, he was worried about what he would hear about his PGA comeback. He seemed happy and relaxed like joined the CBS show to discuss his return.

“It was phenomenal,” Koepka said. “I don’t know what I expected, but it was more than I expected. Overwhelming and very cool. The players seemed excited and welcomed me.”

He was asked if he was nervous about his return. “Yeah, oh yeah. It was a little weird, but once you get in a few holes, you get into your comfort zone. I’m falling back in love with the game.”

Koepka made the cut in his return to the PGA Tour, but is far from a title shot. Justin Rose is the tournament leader at 21 under through three rounds, while Koepka is 19 shots behind at 2 under par.
