Bruins perfect offer for Kiefer Sherwood from Canucks
The Boston Bruins were one of the finalists for Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Anderson on the trade market. According to reports, they were given permission to negotiate a contract, but could not agree on terms. Now that Andersson is with the Vegas Golden Knightsit’s time to spin. The Bruins should make a big offer for Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood.
Andersson is a defenseman, but the market for blueliners is not strong at this deadline. The Bruins can improve their team by adding scoring on the wings, which Sherwood provides. Their biggest need, however, is centers. Those players are traditionally harder to land, which makes Sherwood a better target.
The Bruins weren’t expected to compete for a playoff spot this year, but they have surprised many with their start to the season. They will need reinforcements to make a deep playoff run, and Sherwood provides just that. With 17 goals in 44 games this year, he is in the midst of a career year. He will be cheaper than Andersson and will not need an extension.
The Bruins should keep all the prospects they’ve accumulated in recent months. Fraser Minten, specifically, can’t move for Sherwood. With 22 points in 49 games this season, the former Maple Leafs top prospect is a key part of their future. They can afford to part with a few picks for Sherwood, but not the prospect.
In their last game, Marat Khusnutdinov played across from David Pastrnak on the Bruins’ top line. They have to make a trade so that is no longer true. Sherwood can fill that role on the left wing without hindering the Bruins’ future.
Bruins receive: Kiefer Sherwood (50% retained)
The Canucks get: TOR 2026 first round pick, TBL 2026 fourth round pick
The Bruins have a large chest of trade chips

Last year’s trade deadline was a sellout for the Bruins. They sent defenseman Brandon Karl to the Maple Leafs for Minten and a first-round pick in 2026. That pick looked great at the start of the year, but Toronto now holds a playoff spot. They can part with that pick without worrying about finishing in the top 15.
They too changed franchise icon Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers for a conditional pick that turned into a first-rounder in 2027. But with the Panthers off to a poor start this season and uncertainty in goal after July 1, the Bruins would be wise to keep that pick, even though they are protected in the top ten.
Adding Sherwood for the first and fourth rounders they picked up in other trades would be a great move for the Bruins. Risk comes with extension, which should be negotiated a lot. Sherwood will start his next deal at age 31, so it can’t be a seven-year deal. If they can sign him to a four or five year deal, that would be a much better deal.
The Bruins have already shown interest in adding him at this deadline. That means they’re willing to part with a first-round pick and millions of dollars for an extension. While Andersson was their top target, Sherwood would be a solid pivot in the six weeks before the trade deadline. Unlike Andersson, Sherwood isn’t going to the Olympics, so there’s no rush to get this deal done.
The Bruins won’t be the only team in the market for Sherwood. With very few trades coming out of the Eastern Conference, the Canucks will be able to make a tough bargain at the deadline. There are intangible pieces for the Bruins, and knowing what they are will be important come the deadline.
Should the Bruins go after Sherwood?
