Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo to college? Milwaukee star jokes about NCAA eligibility

After losing to the Toronto Raptorsthe Milwaukee Bucks don’t play again until this friday. But the superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo looks like he’s itching for some Wednesday night basketball action like he is he wondered aloud on social media if he could play for the Marquette Golden Eagles team that is scheduled to face the Southern Jaguars.

“Random thoughts sitting in my living room…am I eligible for college??? Can I dress for Marquette tonight? 🤔💭,” the two-time NBA MVP wrote in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, that has since gone viral.

The Bucks are back in Cream City after a two-game sweep of the Indiana Pacers and a loss to the Raptors, so Antetokounmpo has time to recharge for Friday’s matchup against the impressive Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum — the same building where the Golden Eagles will face the Southern Eagles.

First of all, Giannis Antetokounmpo is ineligible to play college basketball even if he hasn’t seen action in the NCAA before.

That would be it Marquette basketball head coach Shaka Smart’s job much easier if, theoretically speaking, a future basketball Hall of Famer pulls on the Golden Eagles. Marquette may not even need a coach to be successful on the floor under such fantastic circumstances. It would be Antetokounmpo taking the rest of the nation to school.

Even the pros are hard to slow down Giannis Antetokounmpo. So far in the 2025-26 NBA season, “The Greek Freak” is averaging 32.3 points on 70 percent shooting, 12.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists in seven games.

If Marquette needed someone like Antetokounmpo to help them win, it won’t be this one against the lowly Jaguars. South has just been ranked 176th in the nation by KenPomwhile the Golden Eagles are number 47.

Marquette basketball took care of business in its first game of the 2025-26 college basketball season, defeating the Albany Great Danes 80-53 on Monday. However, they will have a tougher task this week, as Smart’s team takes on the Indiana Hoosiers at the United Center in Chicago.
