Can Victor Wembanyama reach 100 points? Former players share their thoughts

During San Antonio Spurs‘ 136-108 win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, Victor Vembanyama’s dominance was exposed dropping 37 points in the first half. Although he would score just three more points the rest of the game, there was talk of whether Victor Wembanyama could eventually match Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 100 points in a game.

During the latest episode of ‘Run It Back,’ presented by FanDuel TV, former NBA players Lou Williams and Chandler Parsons give your thoughts on whether Victor Wembanyama will be the next player to eventually reach 100 points in a game.

“If there’s anybody that’s going to do it, I think it’s him,” Parsons said. “If you see the way he’s talking about All-Star weekend, his approach is just different. His maturity is different. This game, it was just the Wembley show … I don’t know about the 100-ball, because again, it’s going to have to be a competitive game, and I don’t know if he’s going to be with this one, and Luca is going to be able to do things like A.B. Reaves, (Deandre) Ayton, (Marcus) Smart on the floor, which none of them have played, so we knew that this is going to get ugly fast.”

For Williams, he was a little more subdued in hinting that the Spurs star could one day reach the century in scoring.

“First of all, he doesn’t shoot enough. Second, I’ve played with real guns, real guys who shoot, shoot, shoot the basketball, and they still can’t do that,” Williams said. “I just don’t think he has the mentality to go out and do 50-60 reps.”

“That would be completely contrary to this thinking about ‘ethical basketball,'” Williams continued.

Against the Lakers, Wembanyama made 20 shots and 12 free throws en route to his 40-point night. His previous career high is 50 points, which he scored in November 2024. In that game, defeating the Washington Wizards, Wembanyama made 29 shots, including 16 3-point attempts and 13 free throws.
