Draymond Green, Jonathan Cummings injury updates

SAN FRANCISCO – The The Golden State Warriors have caught some of their injury woes just as they begin their important extended home. Veterans Center Al Horfordwho left midway through a close loss to the Portland Trail Blazers with a right hamstring injury, miss at least three subsequent games with a sciatica-related injury, according to head coach Steve Kerr.
“Al (Horford) is going to be out for a little bit, so Trace (Jackson-Davis) is going to see some more minutes,” Kerr said. “He will miss the next three games for sure.”
According to the team, Horford will be re-evaluated in a week. As for Horford’s frontcourt counterpart, Draymond Greenthe Dubs defensive tackle is officially questionable for Monday’s matchup with the Utah Jazz due to a mild foot sprain he also suffered in the loss to the Blazers. Kerr told Green reporters maybe landed awkwardly on him. That potentially leaves Golden State without its top two big men, right after Portland outscored them 52-32.
The injuries to Horford and Green also come at a time when the Warriors’ depth is dwindling. Forward Jonathan Cummingawho has missed the last five games with bilateral patellar tendonitis, remains “day-to-day” based on what the Dubs’ coaching staff told Kerr. But Kuminga is expected to miss more games in the near future, as he was “barely” able to participate in the Warriors’ practice today.
“I don’t know where (he is), he has to tell you where he is (with the injury). He’s not moving well. So the training staff, working with them, I have no idea what he’s doing,” Kerr said.
The reporter asked for a follow-up on Kerr’s level of concern about Kuminga moving forward.
“I just talked to the training staff and they told me it’s day-to-day. Talking to JK (Kuminga), he said he’s not moving that well. So I can’t tell you what the outlook is.”
The strangeness of Kuminga’s injury
Kuminga’s injury is nothing short of strange, especially considering how Kerr sounded hopeful about his timeline just a few days before.
“I think JK would tell you that (look) better than I could. Kerr continued at his media availability. “He needs to feel better and be able to move better before we put him out there. We might get some pictures done, but yeah, we have to figure it out… I was hoping he would move today and he didn’t, so apparently it’s worse than we thought. But I didn’t talk to him.”
While Kerr detailed Cumming’s injury, there was a sense that communication between the two was a little lacking. Kerr told reporters to ask Cummings about his injury for more clarity. And while Kerr said he’s talked to Cummings about how he’s not moving well, he also said he hasn’t talked to him about what he’s doing with the training staff.
It’s no secret that Kuminga and Kerr have had their share of struggles in the past. The latest appears to be Kuminga feeling like a “scapegoat” for Golden State’s woes when Kerr moved him to the bench during the Dubs’ tough stretch two weeks ago. The vagueness surrounding Kuminga’s knee injury only seems to add to the strangeness of his whole situation. Still, Kerr said the Warriors need him and his play has been lacking.
“We missed him. We played in Miami, we missed all our guys. We were tired the other night, like, we needed him. But he’s got to get right before he can play, obviously.”
With Horford set to miss time, Cummings’ injury a major question mark, and Green taking a hit, Golden State will look deep into its bench to find stopping answers.
