Hawks trade proposal to Bulls brings Kobe White to Trae Young team

A lot trade talk was generated at the NBA G League Winter Showcase. this year, Coby White has emerged as a name that could soon be on the move. Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks all are linked as potential trade destinations for Chicago Bulls guard. The Hawks are an interesting combination due to the previous presence of Trae Young in their backcourt. Still, White and Young would certainly form a fun offensive back duo. A Beli plus Nikola Vucevic for the Kristaps Porzingis trade it’s already been talked about, but is there another deal that makes more sense for both parties?

Hawks trade proposal for Kobe White

The Hawks get: Coby White

Bulls get: Luke Kennard, first round pick 2029, three second round picks

White is a free agent at the end of the season, adding urgency to Chicago’s potential desire to trade him. The aforementioned trade proposal for Porzingis would bring in a talented player, but the Latvian big man is wrong. Porzingis is too often sidelinedand he is playing under an expiring contract. The Bulls would also have to trade both Belo and Vucevic in this deal. The two combined offer more value than Porzingis alone, especially since Vucevic provides similar 3-point expertise at the pivot spot.

A trade involving White, in which the Bulls receive a package of draft picks, makes more sense than the Porzingis deal. Despite the Eastern Conference being weaker than usual this year, the Bulls are still outside the top eight in the conference. Escaping the purgatory of mediocrity they’ve been stuck in for some time may not be possible without embracing a full renewal.

This proposed deal would net the Bulls a first-round pick in 2029, as well as three second-rounders. It’s not a mind-blowing offer, but it would set the Bulls up better for the future.

The Hawks are only 15-18, but in a bad Eastern Conference, that’s good enough to get them into the play-in tournament. Atlanta has talent on its roster, and while their offseason moves didn’t quite pan out as hoped, expectations were still high after what was considered one of the better offseasons in the NBA.

Young is elite in both playmaking and scoring, and Jaylen Johnson has developed into an All-Star-caliber teammate. Dyson Daniels is an elite defensive back, and expectations remain high for former first-round pick Zachary Rizacher. Another solid starter like White could be enough to get the Hawks to the next level.

White is only 25 years old and is averaging 20.5 points per game. He can score inside or outside, and he would help take some of the offensive load off Young’s shoulders. The Hawks would only have to get rid of one rotation player in this deal. Luke Kennard’s 3-point production would be replaced by White, but White offers much more in almost every other facet of basketball.

While the Hawks would be giving up multiple draft picks in this deal, they wouldn’t be mortgaging the future. Most importantly, the Hawks would retain a 2026 first-rounder owed to them by the New Orleans Pelicans, who will likely end up near the top of the draft. White is young enough that the Hawks could feel comfortable giving him a long-term contract extension. However, if he doesn’t work out, the Hawks could let him walk free without their future.
