How Bam Adebayo ‘shuts down’ Kel’el Ware in the middle of a monster
MIAMI – With The Miami Heat are playing against the Milwaukee Bucks in the upcoming game of the NBA Cup on Wednesday night, the team will be looking for plenty of contributions in their quest for a season tournament. Doc Heat star Tyler Hero made his season debut in a 106-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks, the game also featured another impressive performance from the center Kel’el Ware.
Starting once again and posting 20 points and 18 rebounds to go along with a +15 from the floor, he has recorded double-doubles in seven of his last eight games, plus it’s his ninth consecutive game with double figures. In addition to the statistics that are being developed, an increased intensity and emotion were observed, especially after each of his three blocks on Monday.

One player who has been a mentor for Vare is the captain Bam Adebayowho noticed an emotional change from the 22-year-old, saying he did “gas it.”
“Man, I’m shutting it down, and you probably see that a lot on the bench,” Adebayo said. “A lot of people have, there’s been a lot of coaches yelling at him, us yelling at him. Then he’s got his people in his ear. Then obviously he’s got to think about it. So I can, you know, see what he’s doing, man, I’m really proud of him because, like I said, he might not be 20 every night.”
“But his impact now, it doesn’t matter if it’s seven points and 10 rebounds, you’re going to feel his impact,” Adebayo continued. “And that’s what I want him to continue to strive for, not just get a double-double. I want him to really impact the win through being aggressive, obviously crashing the glass, but just impact the win, because it might not show up on the scoreboard.”
Bam Adebayo would talk about Kel’el Ware’s added intensity:
“I get him excited … Being able to see what he’s doing, I’m really proud of him. He might not be 20 and 18 every night, but his impact now, it doesn’t matter if it’s seven points, you feel his impact now. . . .” #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/HdfofrR6DD

The warmth Erik Spoelstra on Kel’el Ware earning playing time

As Ware continues his impressive streak for the Heatit will be difficult for coach Erik Spoelstra to bench the big man, since while he is mostly a starter, he has also come off the bench.
However, it’s likely Ware’s spot to keep as Spoelstra spoke after Monday’s monster outing, saying Ware was “earning more playing time”, especially with the way he rebounds, because in addition to his 18 boards, six of them are offensive. Ware even played in key parts of the game in the fourth quarter, showing added confidence.
“He wants to get better for this team, but he has solid days, every day, and now those days add up to wins, and the way he’s recovering now, it’s earning him more playing time,” Spoelstra said. “We say that all the time. You know, make us notice that you’re impacting the game, and then eventually get us to play with you. . . . Sometimes these decisions become a little more obvious.”
“I enjoy that as a coach, when I have to figure out, like I have to move things because I can’t keep somebody off the floor,” Spoelstra continued. “But secondly, I think these types of close games are important experiences for him, not at the expense of what’s best to win. But the more you go through stressful situations like this, where you hold yourself accountable to do your job. There’s no way to drill that or watch film on that equals actually going through it. And he’s safe.”
Erik Spoelstra on another great outing from Kel’el Ware and has the confidence to play him late:
“I like how he walks in the building every day. Coaches for better or for worse. He wants to be better for this team. . . .” #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/eFa4uIaUIk

Heat’s Tyler Hero on Kel’el Ware Building ‘Championship Habits’
Since when The Heat’s young center answered the challenge after team icon Udonis Haslem texted him after a tough performance against the New York Knicks on Nov. 14 in an NBA Cup game.
What resulted was a more motivated Ware, potentially putting into perspective the high expectations the team has for him, as Herro echoed the same sentiments, eventually expressing “habits of a champion” that come with Miami. Herro himself was in the same shoes.
“He has a vision of what he needs to do,” Hero, a former first-round pick for the Heat, said of Ware. “And he continues to come in every day and work on his craft. The attention to detail is there. And I think it’s really important for him to continue to work hard and understand that there are ups and downs. I was a young guy, not quite as tall and talented as him, but I was a little bit in his shoes, you know.”
“And I know it’s not always easy,” Herro continued. “You know, guys are on you every day, especially here, we deal with championship habits, you know, every day. And for a young guy, that’s a lot…there’s no other way you want to have it when you’re young, this is where you want to be.”
Tyler Hero would talk about what he’s seen from Kel’el Ware since the last game they played in the Cavs’ playoff series.
He’d say he’s not as tall or as talented as Ware.
“He has a vision of what he needs to do…”

Either way, Ware looks set to continue developing into a Miami star with Wednesday’s contest against the Bucks as the team tries to make it six straight.
