Ja Morant is angry with the media as he complains about the referees

Memphis Grizzlies guard I Morant expressed his frustration to officials after blowing a 19-point lead in a 114-100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since then Morant’s public discussion with the Grizzlies coaching staff in a 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis was winless in a game, as Sunday’s loss to the Thunder extended its losing streak to six.

When a reporter asked Morant about reducing his numbers at the rim, it led to criticizing the judgesaccording to Damichael Cole of Commercial Appeal.

“I’m not going to get any wrong calls. You all messed up about running carelessly and getting hurt,” Morant said. “So, what now? That’s what you want me to go back to doing? Let’s end that conversation right there.”

Morant dismissed the notion that he needs to attack the rim more often and doubled down his trust in his shooting.

“That’s why I’m not too frustrated because I’m in this arena, I’m in the gym doing the same thing,” Morant added. “Right now he’s just continuing to shoot, continuing to shoot with confidence and waiting for it to translate.”

Morant is averaging 19.2 points on 35.8% shooting, including a career-low 14.8% from deep, 7.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season. Those numbers dropped to 16.8 points on 28.8% shooting, including 13.6% from three, in November, where the Grizzlies went 0-5. Morant finished with 11 points on 3-of-18 shooting, eight assists and one steal.

The Grizzlies fell to 4-7, the tenth-best record in the Western Conference.

Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is in his first full season with head coach Tumoas Iisal, who took over when Taylor Jenkins was fired before last year’s playoffs. Morant does not see eye-to-eye with Iisal, which allegedly caused trade interest in Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Grizzlies.one month after the 2025-26 NBA campaign.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel broke down trade rumors surrounding the All-Star Grizzlies forward.

“(Whether Jackson would reconsider his immediate future) is a question many organizations keep in the back of their mind regarding Morant’s status in Memphis, as Jackson would be wanted in the league,” Siegel wrote. “One Western Conference executive who spoke with ClutchPoints described Jackson as the ‘missing piece’ for many teams to win championships right away in both conferences.”

The Grizzlies will try to snap a six-game losing streak against the Knicks on Tuesday.
