Jaime Jaquez Jr. and the Heat have another blast against the Hornets
Terry Rozier’s sidelining following the FBI’s performance-fixing investigation doesn’t faze the Heat. Because since the leader/guard was arrested, Erik Spoelstra’s troops have been on a roll!
However, against the Hornets, Miami still had to be without Tyler Hero and Norman Powell. That didn’t stop the Floridians from winning (144-117), at least LaMelo Ball (20 points on 6/18 shooting, 9 assists and 8 rebounds) and his teammates managed to hold out until the middle of the third quarter…
Except that Charlotte was ultimately unable to maintain the tempo imposed by the opposing team, Jaime Jaquez Jr. he regained his full impact with 28 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. And a monstrous +/- of +43!
It was too much for a team that was without Brandon Miller and whose bench suffered a lot, like Tre Mann on 3/15 shooting. Hard for Moussa Diabate (8 points) et Tidjane Salaun (3 points, 6 rebounds) to shine in these conditions, the Hornets still have work to do to develop a defensive identity dear to Charles Lee.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Will the Heat succeed where the Grizzlies failed? Last year, Memphis surprised with a drastic reduction sin utilization de pick-and-rollbut eventually frustrated Ja Morant and the experiment was abandoned. The tests are now taking place in Florida, where Erik Spoelstra’s team has significantly reduced the use of screens to focus on one-on-ones. And it’s working right now, as players like Jaime Jaquez Jr. they take the opportunity to show off, even if the wing gave us a scare when he took the dunk…
– An interesting influence from Ryan Kalkbrenner. We could fear that the Hornets see the weakness of their interior sector, on paper, at the start of the season. That’s not the biggest problem for Charles Lee so far, though, and that’s thanks in particular to rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner, who continues to put in sober but effective performances. His size and circle presence are good for Charlotte.
