Thunder’s SGA hits Kings with dagger 3, spoils Russell Westbrook’s first start

When Shai Gilgeous-Alexander he won MVP in both the regular season and the NBA Finals while in charge Oklahoma City Thunder by their first championship, many people wondered if he would cement himself as the best guy in the league. It’s very early in the 2025-26 campaign, but the superstar fullback is maintaining his mastery of the hoop. He graced the Paycom Center with another sensational performance on Tuesday.
Gilgeous-Alexander was disoriented Sacramento Kings on both ends of the floor, he scored 31 points on 14-of-26 shooting, along with nine rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal. When it came time to shut down the visiting team, the 27-year-old Canadian relied on what many consider a weakness in his game. He drained a step back 3-pointer with just over 15 seconds remaining in the contest, cementing a 107-101 win and a 5-0 start for the Thunder.

The man is a fearless competitor, unfazed by his 22.7 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line this year. Gilgeous-Alexander made his first and only third on the night when it mattered most, epitomizing what it means to be a franchise cornerstone. Bigs can come out of slumps and provide for their team in crunch time, and the three-time All-NBA First Team selection appears to be on that path.
Gilgeous-Alexander takes on additional responsibilities with Jaylen Williams still recovering from offseason wrist surgery, but still stands tall. His steadfast nature is infectious. Trailing 97-90 midway through the fourth quarter, OKC went on an 11-0 run to seize the game’s momentum. Call it a champion’s aura, infinite power, or just plain skill, this team has the ability to overwhelm their opponent without warning.
It all starts with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. In the night when former Thunder pillar Russell Westbrook made his first start with the Kings (16 points and nine rebounds), the current face of OKC is reigning again. He currently wears the crown, and he does so with a quiet intensity that fans have come to expect and admire.
