Jake LaRavia’s Anthony Edwards shoutout in a viral moment

LOS ANGELES – During Los Angeles Lakers‘ 116-115 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves last week, Jake LaRavia has found himself in a major viral moment. Amide one of his best games of the seasona confused Wolves fan asked aloud who LaRavia was. Timberwolves star Anthony Edwardscarted off the field with a hamstring injury, he was then caught on camera agreeing with fans.

LaRavia had another huge game in the middle of the Lakers’ 130-120 win against the Miami Heat on Sunday, and this time it was a Lakers fan in the home crowd who jokingly echoed Wolves fans, ‘who’s #12?’ kuip. After the game, LaRavia called out Anthony Edwards and admitted that he found the whole situation pretty funny.

“I put my hands up a little bit and kind of agreed with him, like who’s number 12? I played around with it a little bit. I find that kind of thing funny because I’m not well known right now. Keep my head down, work hard, that’s all I do,” LaRavia said. “I think it’s good. Shout out to Anthony Edwards for letting that clip go viral. I think it’s good. I think it’s funny.”

It was quite a week for Jake LaRavia as he strung together a a series of strong games starting with a win against the Timberwolves. He dropped 27 points in that game to complement Austin Reeves’ 28 and the eventual game-winner. He followed that up with 13 points in a win against the Memphis Grizzlies and then finished the week with 25 against the Heat.

LaRavia signed with the Lakers as a free agent in the offseason, and is having a career year so far in his fourth season in the NBA. He appeared in all seven games for the Lakers with just over 28 minutes per game. He averaged 12.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals on 60 percent shooting from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line and 57.1 percent from the free throw line.

The No. 19 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, LaRavia is coming into his own as an NBA player, though he gives a lot of credit to playing alongside elite ball handlers and playmakers like Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

“I preach this every time I talk to the media, it’s just very easy to play with Luke and AR,” LaRavia said. “A lot of my buckets are getting past the defense in transition, just running harder than the other team, and kind of getting those dunks or those layups, and then just shooting the catch and shooting the threes.”
