Joe Ingles 1-liner about Edwards cooking the Blazers

Anthony Edwards starred in the premiere as The Minnesota Timberwolves saw off the Portland Trail Blazers 118-114 in the Moda Center. ANT came back with 41 points and seven rebounds as the Timberwolves produced a commanding comeback in the fourth quarter to finish things off.

After the game, Edwards’ teammate Joe Ingles had simple explanation for what broke, with ANT producing a mid-range jumper that helped the Timberwolves open a four-point lead with less than seven seconds on the clock.

“Good. That’s what happens when you have the best player,” said Jon Krawczynski of the Athletics.

Edwards continued to unbutton his jersey after the hit and yelled at the Moda Center crowd. Ingles reacted with excessively wide eyes after the shot. However, his comments afterward perfectly summed up what the Trail Blazers had been through.

ANT’s 41 points is a franchise record for points in a season opener. He was questionable with back spasms, but led all scorers at halftime with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter on 4-of-4 shooting, the most Portland had as a team in that span. His late shooting sequence was decisive: a step back to cut it to 107–105, a 3-pointer for a 108–107 lead with 3:36 left, another 3-pointer to make it 114–112 and Rudy Gobert’s dunk with 32.1 seconds left.

Minnesota trailed 61–57 at halftime and seven after three because they didn’t get enough stops. Early foul trouble limited Gobert to less than 13 minutes in the first half, and Portland freely attacked the rim and foul line.

For Portland, Jeremy Grant led the way with 29 points off the bench, while Danny Avdia scored 20 as a starter. For Minnesota, Jaden McDaniels and Julius Randle added 18 and 19 points, respectively, and Gobert finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Timberwolves will now face the Los Angeles Lakers on October 24.
