Kyler Murray’s troubling foot injury complicates the future


The Arizona Cardinals they face a tricky quarterback situation. Jacoby Brissett took over for Kyler Murray after landing on injured reserve with a foot injury. The the veteran quarterback sparked the offense and even gave the Cardinals a win last week. Could he be the starter for the rest of the season if Murray is out?

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared all the details on Murray’s foot injury in a recent article.

“Sources say Murray is dealing with a midfoot sprain in the area of ​​Lisfranc’s injury — which isn’t actually a Lisfranc injury,” Rapoport wrote Saturday. “It’s a partial tear of the ligament – otherwise known as a sprain – but no broken bones and no dislocation.”

Rapoport explained that Murray’s initial diagnosis was three to four weeks, which explains why Arizona didn’t initially place him on injured reserve.

However, Murray is still not fully healthy and there is a risk of re-injury.

Murray will be eligible to return on Dec. 7 against the Rams. Then Arizona must decide if Murray will come off injured reserve.

That decision could hinge on Arizona’s position in the NFC playoff race and whether or not Brissett continues to play at a high level.

Murray’s future in Arizona is now an open question.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter noticed Murray’s future in the desert ‘in limbo’ ahead of the 2026 offseason.

“The Cardinals must decide by this offseason whether to try to trade Murray, release him or pay another $19.5 million in guaranteed money that is due on the fifth day of the new league year in mid-March,” Schefter wrote Saturday. “Arizona and Murray are expected to have extensive discussions to determine whether to go together or go their separate ways. Many sources believe the latter is the likely outcome, with one source saying this week that a ‘separation is imminent.'”

Maybe it is The Cardinals will have a trade market for Murray this offseason if he can get healthy. But for now, the Cardinals should focus on finishing the regular season.
