Luka Dončić conducts the first vote of the fans of the All-Star game

International players have been ruling the top of the league for several years now, winning MVP awardsNBA Finals trophies and a number of other awards. Their supremacy extends until 2026 NBA All-Star Game. First round of fan votes were revealed on Monday, and should make Europeans very proud. Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić leads all players with 1,249,518 votes, according to the NBA Communications X account.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpowho has already missed 14 games this season due to injury, trails the Eastern Conference with 1,192,296. Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has the second most votes overall, behind Doncic by more than 120,000. Tyrese Maxey is the No. 2 running back in the East, leading a hotly contested backfield that also includes Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham and Donovan Mitchell.

Stephen Curry, the 2024-25 regular season and Finals MVPs Shai Giljus-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama round out the West’s top five. NBA icon LeBron James is ranked ninth, and Danny Avdia is aiming for his first career All-Star appearance after finishing seventh. There’s a good mix of familiar names and up-and-coming talent in these early returns.

In determining who will be the starting five of the East and West teams on February 15, the fans have 50 percent of the vote. The other 50 percent is split between the NBA players and the media panel.

The Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome will serve as the ceremony’s host venue, so it’s cruelly poetic to see a Lakers player garner more votes than anyone else. James Harden is currently the home team’s leading scorer for the NBA All-Star Game (12th in the West).

The next fan voting update will come on January 6th.
