Mike Vrabel addresses the issues of the Patriots’ offensive line
The New England Patriots they had no shortages during the 2024-25 season, highlighted by their 4-13 record that placed them in last place in the AFC East. Newly hired head coach Mike Vrabelcan pinpoint one area of time that stands out the most when it comes to needs improvement, offensive line.
“We have to focus on the line because I think the best teams in the National Football League right now are the ones that still have the best offensive lines,” Vrabel said in an appearance on VEEI’s Greg Hill Show. “They change the line of scrimmage, they protect the passer, they have versatility in the running game, they can run a zone scheme, they can run a gap scheme … but (we) want to focus on some of those areas,” Carlos Lopez reported via Twitter/ Ks.
According to the Pro Football Network, the Patriots’ the offensive line came in last in the NFL in 2024, earning a poor 46.6 grade.
“The New England PatriotsThe offensive line always looked like it could be an issue in 2024,” wrote Ben Rolfe. “He lacked enough solid veterans or young players to be a unit that can help elevate a team that is arguably the weakest in the league at VR and RB.”
It doesn’t matter what the Patriots do at other positions on the offensive side of the ball. If the offensive line doesn’t improve, the problems will continue.

Vrabel is expected to have his choice candidates for coordinators on both sides of the ball. According to Chad Graf of the Athletics, Vrabel’s top choice for defense coordinator could present some challenges.
“(Shane) Bowen could be Vrabel’s top choice, but the complicating factor here is that Bowen is still under contract with the Giants as defensive coordinator,” Graf wrote. “And even though owner John Mara has expressed displeasure with his team’s performance, it doesn’t appear the Giants are ready to part ways with the 38-year-old Bowen, who spent three years as Vrabel’s defensive coordinator at Tennessee.”
Assembling a capable coaching staff will be one of the first steps Vrabel and the Patriots need to take as they try to right the ship.
