Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. ‘lock’ will be traded before the deadline

As Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. continues to collect votes for All-Star consideration, his trade stock is at an all-time high. Porter Jr.’s breakout season with the Nets is seen by many as a means for Brooklyn to acquire assets in a potential deadline move.

Porter Jr. is having the best season of his career, which is why one analyst predicts he will be moved before the deadline, according to John Hollinger of the Athletic.

“With one reliable league source telling me that Michael Porter Jr. is the key to moving the deadline so the Nets can trade high in his career year, it makes sense for the Nets to figure out who their franchise center will be a year from now,” Hollinger said. “Remember, Brooklyn owes Houston a pick trade in 2027 and therefore has no incentive to contend next season. They need some players.”

Networks forward Michael Porter Jr. has had an injury-riddled career full of failures and high expectations during his time with the Nuggets, but this season — his first with the Nets — was a breath of fresh air. With a clean slate of health and a fresh start, Porter Jr. feels he’s finally on the edge reaching its full potential.

“I expected when I was drafted to be the best player in the NBA. Injuries took a toll on me, but I think determination and resilience allowed me to be able to win a pretty valuable space in the NBA and play for many years,” Porter Jr. said. “But I think that was my expectation, because I knew what I was capable of, and I’ve played against really good players my whole life. So what I’m doing now is not a shock to me.”

I think doing the way I am after the injury, I think that’s something I’m more proud of. Because it’s not a surprise, but I’ve been through a lot in my career and it takes a lot of hard work to stay resilient and available.”

The NBA trade deadline is February 5.
