Pistons guard Jaden Ivey broke his leg in a collision against the Magic
Detroit Pistons guard Poor Ivey broke his left leg in a crash during a win over Orlando Magicaccording to an ESPN report.
Ivey shared a social media post with the news and added a message for his followers.
“I promise to come back even better,” Ivey wrote in the post. “The recovery begins now #DetroitBasketball.”
The Pistons did not provide an update on Ivey’s condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
Detroit drafted Ivey with the fifth overall pick in 2022 and the first Purdue star had a breakout year. Ivey averaged 17.6 points and 4.1 rebounds — both career highs — with four assists in 30 games this season.
He was injured when Orlando Cole Anthony he slipped and fell as he and Ivy went for the ball. Anthony’s momentum carried him into Ivy’s planted leg, knocking Ivy to the floor. The 22-year-old Ivey was in obvious distress as he clutched his shin and was quickly assisted by the team’s medical staff.
Members of the coaching staff raised towels to block the audience’s view of the injury, and players from both teams formed a circle around it. After a long delay, he was loaded onto a stretcher and taken out of the arena with a towel covering the injury.
“It’s tough for all of us,” Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff said after Detroit’s 105-96 victory. “There is no better person or teammate than JI and no one cares about that more than him.”
