Reid Shepard’s wild nickname that was shot down by Klay Thompson

On Saturday night, Houston Rockets held on for a narrow home win over Cooper Flegg and the Dallas Mavericks. It was a relatively quiet game from the quarterback Reed Sheppardwho had just six points on the night, missing all four of his attempts from beyond the arc.
however, Shepard was on the heater seemingly all season for the Rockets in his second year in the NBA, leading some Rockets fans to call him “Cocaine Curry.”
After Saturday night’s game, the Mavericks guard and Stephen Curryformer Golden State Warriors teammate, Klay Thompsonhe wasn’t really on board with a nickname.
“I think Reed’s a great shooter. I don’t think anybody should be in the same sentence as Steph, though. It’s crazy,” Thompson told Sports Illustrated’s Chancellor Johnson on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, Curry is considered to be in a league of his own when it comes to outside shooting, having broken basically every three-point shooting record there was to break in the NBA.
However, Shepard has started to emerge as a three-point threat this season, shooting 39% from beyond the arc this year, with many of those attempts coming off the dribble and in other shooting-difficult scenarios.
Shepard has been forced into a perhaps bigger role than originally expected this year due to the torn playoff starting guard Fred VanVleet suffered a season ago, an injury that many still believe could limit how effective Houston is in the playoffs.
However, if Shepard’s hot shooting can carry over into the postseason, it would certainly provide a big boost for the Rockets.
Either way, Houston is next scheduled to take the court Monday night on the road against the Indiana Pacers.
