Stephen Curry takes a look at the NBA’s problem

Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry downplayed the NBA’s recent fines against the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers for assaults during All-Star media day. After Warriors veteran Draymond Green called out Adam Silver for the new format of the NBA All-Star Game, Curry addressed the intriguing topic of teams increasing their chances of getting a good draft pick by benching their best players.

Curry questioned the seriousness of the NBA the question of refueling during his media availability on Saturday.

“Is it really that big of a problem? I’m asking. We think there’s obviously a lot of competition,” Curry said. “That’s something I’m sure every year the NBA wants to address: why there’s a play-in tournament. Things evolve, problems arise and everyone wants to shine a light on all the negatives of the league. But let’s focus on the positives of how much competition there is at the top. There’s still relevance to the regular season and the offseason.

“I know there’s a conversation about how many games we play. I’d probably pay more attention to that. Let’s not forget that the league is in a great place as a whole in terms of attention, skill level, global reach, all of that. Every year you’re going to deal with problems. I don’t have those answers, though,” Curry concluded.

An 82-game regular season should also be a talking point for Curry. Perhaps cutting back 82 games or adding a week or two to the season would help with how demanding the NBA regular season can be, as Stephen Curry noted.

Without any specific ideas to disclose, the NBA commissioner Adam Silver confirmed that tanking is a problem in the league, one that will be resolved beyond the league’s recent fines. Silver dealt with the topic during his presence at the Media Day.

“Every possible remedy to stop this behavior is now being discussed,” Silver replied.

In the near future, the NBA may announce new penalties for teams that house their best players.
