The Hawks offense is in trouble
Against the Bucks, the Hawks offense suffered a few setbacks. In the first half, Atlanta made just one of its 22 attempts from behind the arc and trailed by 16 points entering the locker room. Lack of success embodied in Nickeil Alexander-Walker who scored 0/7 in the halftime drill.
“We have to shoot better, but we made some good shots.” lit up those shadows Quinn Snyder about this first period. “When you miss so many shots, it’s easy to change the way you play. This was a big theme at halftime. We told ourselves we’re going to keep playing like that and we’re going to get our shots in the end.”
More precisely, this same Nickeil Alexander-Walker is finally finding skill in the second period. At the beginning of the third act he serves it Jalen Johnson to make his first long shot of the evening. In the process, the former Wolves return the favor to their winger who in turn fires a long-range arrow.
Nikhil Alexander-Walker played an active role in the Hawks’ comeback as he scored 28 of his 32 points in the second half.
“That’s the reality of the game, you’re not always going to hit your shots,” underlines Nikhil Alexander-Walker. “Sometimes you make shots that you think are good and they don’t go in. Sometimes forced shots go in. We realized that most of the shots we made were good and if we had made them, maybe the outcome would have been different. However, we continued to fight despite our mistakes. »
The last action that symbolizes the attack that remains
However, the Hawks’ offense again stalled in the final seconds. With Atlanta two points behind and no time out, CJ McCollum is trying to get an extension. The former Wizards have a very complicated mid-range shot Kyle Kuzma doc Corey Kispert is open in the corner. The wing misses its target and Atlanta s’incline.
“When you don’t have timeouts, these are the situations you work on in training,” explains Quinn Snyder. “We trust CJ and we thought he would find a position and a good shot. It’s complicated to blame him and I would rather say that this defeat was not the result of just one action.”
Since arriving in AtlantaCJ McCollum played five games averaging 17 points on 40% shooting, but a lowly 18% from behind the arc. His adaptation matches football player Quin Snyder’s current four-game losing streak. A segment in which they score just 105.1 points per 100 possessions, third worst overall in the League in this sample, just ahead of the Knicks and Pacers.
“The more we combine our technical palettes, the more it will help the team. It’s a matter of communication,” sums up Nikhil Alexander-Walker about his relationship with CJ McCollum. “We learn how he works and we teach him how our systems work so we know where to position ourselves to be effective.”
