Tristan Wirfs can’t believe the ‘freaking crazy’ collapse against the Falcons

Even when it is Tampa Bay Buccaneers were winning in the first half of the season, the cracks were evident. Baker Mayfield has been forced to put in one game-winning drive after another, an approach that is extremely difficult to sustain. The Bucs’ weaknesses and injury problems caught up with them and resulted in a precipitous decline. Despite their limitations, it exists there is no excuse for what happened in the last five days.
After a heartbreaking 24-20 loss to the last-place New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Tampa Bay once again failed to protect its NFC South home turf. The Buccaneers cut the lead from two possessions in the fourth quarter and fell to the Atlanta Falcons29-28, on a 43-yard field goal. Kirk Cousins took a sip from the Fountain of Youth, and then the Tampa defense gave him a couple more sips.
Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts enjoyed the best game of his NFL career, Mayfield threw a costly interception and the Bucs used questionable clock management down the stretch. The throwback Creamsicle uniforms, worn by the players during the franchise’s ugly infancy, seemed all too appropriate on this night. All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs struggled to understand the collapse during interview for NSFV after the game.
“I don’t know … it was freaking crazy,” he told reporters, according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports. Wirfs missed the Saints game with an oblique injury, but he saw this accident up close. While divisional battles can be unpredictable, Tampa has hosted its opponent at Raymond James Stadium in back-to-back games, and both times slipped on the proverbial banana peel.

What’s going on with the Buccaneers?
Yes, there were some close calls against the Buccaneers on Thursday, but they had more chances to deliver the knockout blow to the Falcons. Their performance and playing require immediate adjustments. The four-time defending NFC South champions dare the Carolina Panthers to claim the crown. Head coach Todd Bowles is furious with his team’s performance, as did Tristan Wirfs.
The 26-year-old wants the entire locker room to feel the pain of this implosion, so the Bucs will be extra careful to never suffer such a humiliating loss again.
“I hope everybody sits down and lets the fucking stew go,” Wirfs said, according to Aumann. Tampa Bay (7-7) has a week and a half to get out of this puzzling slump before a crucial showdown with Carolina (7-6).
