Victor Vembanyama calls the “problem” for the young team

Victor Vembanyama he didn’t hold back following San Antonio Spurs‘ latest loss. A 111-106 setback to the Houston Rockets it happened the same way as others over the past few weeks for the Silver and Black. It’s a harsh reality that Wemby acknowledges.
“Same as usual. We’re blowing a 15-plus-point lead. The good thing is we’re all in on the problem. We’re all into it. But we know it’s a problem.”

San Antonio scored just 14 points compared to 29 for Houston in the fateful fourth quarter. The The Spurs lost a 16-point lead and a three-game winning streak to go with it.
“I have to find ways to help my team even when I’m not making shots,” Wembanyama admitted. “For example, one simple thing is faster and lob pull to help my team in many other things.”
The the generational talent finished with 14 points on just 5-of-21 shooting, including 0-of-7 from 3-point range.
“Obviously, I would have liked to have taken more shots,” continued Spurs’ top scorer of the season. “I have to use all the different weapons in my arsenal. But obviously it’s not all I can do. When one area of my game isn’t working, I can have other ways to impact the game.”
Defeat followed the game after Wemby found out he would start in the NBA All-Star Game first time in what will mark his second appearance in the competition.
Victor Wembanyama talks about the lessons of Spurs
The Rockets didn’t defend the third-year pro in a way he hadn’t seen before.
“They did what they usually do. And what most teams do, actually,” Vembanyama said.
Like the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves and others before them, Houston was physical with Wemby. They tried to keep him out of the paint with big bodies on the perimeter. When he was caught near or in the lane, he would be targeted by different defenders.
Another common thread for the Spurs of late is bringing in big signings. Two games before the fall in H-town, San Antonio blew a 25-point lead against the T’Wolves before pulling out the win. Earlier this week, they squandered a 19-point lead in a loss in Minneapolis and have given up their second double-digit lead since their eight-game winning streak ended on Dec. 27.
“There are a lot of details,” Wemby revealed. “I think the main idea, and one that we can all see, because it’s obvious, is that we rush in our minds on the field. Sometimes we overreact.”
With the loss to the Rockets, the Spurs fell to 30-14 on the year. It’s good for second in the Western Conference standingsand that represents rebirth considering the Spurs are two years removed from a 22-win season and had 34 wins last year. All things considered, they like us to go.
“The good thing is, nothing makes you learn and grow like failure,” the 7-foot-5 center said. “We’re learning, we’re learning faster. We’re taking a lot while we’re still a winning team, so we’ll figure it out.”
