Victor Wembanyama admits he is 1 from 1 after the win

People have been talking for years San Antonio Spurs center Victor Vembanyama that it is a rare breed. But with his mild-mannered personality, Vembanyama probably shrugged his shoulders a lot.

These days he seems to have embraced the fact that he was built differently. It became increasingly clear, especially after Wembanyama dominated the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center on Wednesday.

The Spurs beat the Rockets 111-99, and Vembanjama recorded all-around norms of 28 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and five assists.

After the game, the two-time All-Star admitted as much the bar is set higher for him.

“I’m trying to do things on the court that no one does, so I have to do things in a way that no one does,” said Wembanyama, who almost single-handedly put the Rockets ahead in the fourth quarter.

San Antonio limited Houston to just 13 points on 4-of-23 shooting in the final period.

The Spurs avenged last week’s loss to the Rockets, where Wembanyama was held to just 14 points on 5-of-21 shooting.

His performance on Wednesday was decisive redemption for that.

It’s scary to think that the 7-foot-4 center is only 22 years old. He is still growing in his body and developing mental toughness. It could even be argued that his reserved nature may prevent him from having a killer instinct.

There’s no doubt that Vembanyama can take over a game in an instant, and the self-awareness that he needs to work harder than everyone else will only make him more formidable.
