Victor Wembanyama is out for weeks with a calf strain

The The San Antonio Spurs have gone cold not long after their hot start to the season, they recently lost two straight games at home to the Golden State Warriors before bouncing back on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings. The Spurs won that game without superstar Victor Vembanyama in the lineup due to a shin injury, and on Monday the team won some bad news about the advancement of the status of the former number one in the overall selection.

“San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has a strained left leg and is expected to be out for several weeks, sources tell ESPN,” NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Injuries have always been a major concern for Vembanyama since entering the NBA, given his size and relatively thin frame. It was a freak blood-clotting incident last year that ended his season prematurely, and now he will have to spend the foreseeable future on the sidelines as Spurs try to hold down the fort without him.

Wembanjam will be joined by second overall pick Dylan Harper on the Spurs bench, leaving an interesting lineup of players, led by last year’s trade deadline acquisition De’Aaron Fox, to try and do the heavy lifting in their absence. The good news is that the Spurs have built themselves a nice cushion in terms of a playoff berth, currently sitting at 9-4 at this early point in the season.

The Spurs will next take the floor on Tuesday night at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.
