Watch Bill Belichick’s victory speech after the Stanford win

It was a dismal season for North Carolina Football. Buzzing around Bill BelichickHis college debut faded quickly as the Tar Heels started 2-5. A four-game losing streak ended North Carolina’s season. It got so bad that Belichick had to deny the rumors suggesting that he is looking for an early release from school.

But the Tar Heels may have turned the corner. After beating Syracuse 27-10 on Halloween, North Carolina defeated the Stanford Cardinal 20-15 at home on Saturday. Belichick and company improved to 4-5 with the win and have a chance to get back to .500 next week against Wake Forest.

After the game, Belichick addressed the team. The famous dead coach did his best to inspire the Tar Heels with a rousing victory speech in the locker room.

“That’s what we thought it was going to be, going right down to the wire. We had our chances to create a little more space than we had. But, in the end, it’s a damn good win overall. We’re going to continue to build on that. Now we have three games at North Carolina. So this is the heart of our schedule,” the UNC official said.

“We’ve got to play our best football. Have our best week of practice, play our best football on Saturday. Get ready to get Wake (Forest) here. Get ready to get Wake. But let’s keep grinding now, we can’t stop. We’ve got to keep grinding, keep improving, keep believing in ourselves, believe in the process. OK? Let’s say congratulations, congratulations, men.” Belichick said, to polite applause.

Both teams got off to a slow start on Saturday. North Carolina got into the game first, capitalizing on a 27-yard turnover deep in Cardinals territory. Stanford responded in the second quarter and the game was tied 3-3 at halftime.

However, the Tar Heels came out firing after the break. UNC scored 17 straight points in the second half, taking a 20-3 lead. Stanford eventually answered with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making it a one-possession game with less than two minutes remaining. The Cardinal was able to get the ball back, but North Carolina’s defense sealed the win by stopping a last-ditch onside drive as time expired.

The Tar Heels hit a low point with theirs devastating overtime loss to Virginia. But the team bounced back nicely, snapping a four-game losing streak last week and improving to 2-3 in the ACC on Saturday.
