Week 1 of ‘training camp’ for LeBron James

LeBron JamesWhile the debate continues the infernal rhythm of the calendar and the numerous injuries that followed, the Lakers had the rare privilege of having a few days off. At least on paper, especially for LeBron James. Los Angeles only played Tuesday at home and yesterday Sunday in Jazz. An opportunity for a forty-year-old to work on his rise to power.

In Salt Lake City, it wasn’t the big LeBron yet, without many surprises. In just over 34 minutes of play, five more than during his first outing of the season, the All-Star wing collected more than respectable statistics with 17 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds. He also took a while to get going, starting the match with 1/7 shooting (8/18 at the end) and looking a little rusty at times. And paradoxically, this “light” week didn’t really help him in that sense.

« I can’t wait to get back to my normal routine » he assured media after the meeting, won at the last minute by the Lakers. « It was really weird. I was already out of rhythm and not playing for four days throws you out of rhythm even more. »

LeBron James missed some “easy” layups by his standards and missed his shot at times. We’ve even seen him be economical on certain defensive rebounds at times, taking advantage of the opportunity to score most of his points in transition (10 points, the Lakers’ most of the game). ” He did some good things on the counter attack and a lot of good things as a distributor » congratulated JJ Redick at the press conference.

“The only way to get back in shape is to play”

LeBron James has signaled to his bench several times that he wants some rest, ” in the first, second, third and fourth quarters » he laughed. ” It doesn’t help that my second game was in Utah » he added, while Salt Lake City is located at about 1,300 meters above sea level, at the height of the highest city (Brianson) that can be found in France. ” Height doesn’t help, you know, very clearly. »

The leading scorer in history paid for his last days of work, while the Lakers took advantage of this hole in the schedule. ” We practiced a few times, we played a few practice games, but the only way to get back in shape from a basketball point of view is to play games. » explained LeBron James. “Physically, I’m in great shape, but when it comes to breathing… It’s going to get better and better with every match. My condition is going to get better. Honestly, this week was like training camp for me. I didn’t have a chance to train at all with the guys during training camp or the preseason. I’m still working to get back.”

This increase in strength will be able to continue in the coming days with another full week in Los Angeles. The Lakers will play four games at home and on an affordable schedule (Clippers, Mavericks, Pelicans, Suns), which is an opportunity for LeBron James to continue his fitness.
