What are the plans for CJ McCollum after the Tree Young trade?
With The Atlanta Hawks trade away star Trae Young for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, there is more speculation about what the team will do with the veteran quarterback now. As it is The Hawks bid farewell to a franchise icon in Young, now enters McCollum, who has been a productive veteran guard in the league, as an NBA insider who lays out some avenues for the player.
On ClutchPoints’ “Clutch Scoops” with Brett Siegel and Tomer Azarly, they would discuss the Atlanta trade and how they got McCollum in return. Siegel would consider whether the team will use it as part of a further deal, as the franchise has been linked to Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis.
“Now the question is what will happen to the Hawks?” Siegel asked. “Will CJ McCollum be part of another deal, potentially? Will the Hawks send him, or will he stay with the Hawks, or could he potentially become a buyout candidate at the trade deadline? So there are a lot of questions left in Atlanta, but they’ve certainly created a lot of flexibility for themselves over the next four weeks, and the focus of the upcoming draft seems to be clearly that this team is going to focus on ‘teaching.’

CJ McCollum expresses his excitement about playing with the Hawks

With McCollum is looking to bring an immediate impact to the Hawks after Young, he was productive with the Wizards, averaging 18.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field. McCollum would praise his time in Washington, as he expressed his excitement about being with Atlanta.
“Michael Winger and Will (Dawkins) did everything they said and kept their word from the start,” McCollum said, via Chris Haynes. “I love the city, and they’re doing things the right way there. Excited to get to the A’s and get to work. They’re very familiar with their style of play. I love the ownership group and the front office. Good group of players.”
Either way, it remains to be seen if McCollum will stick with the Hawks long-term.
