What Iowa State’s TJ Otzelberger had to say about the ‘Hilton Magic’ after beating Kansas

The The Iowa State basketball team continued its special season on Saturday. Iowa State was able to shut out Kansas at home 74-56. After the game, Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger talked about magic of his home floor, the Hilton Coliseum.

“And our fans deserve an assist, especially early in the game, we didn’t score great goals and our fan base really shows for us. There’s no better home field than Hilton Coliseum. And I want to personally thank all of our fans for their energy and what they did today because it was the Hilton Magic and they should feel great about what they did as a fan base,” said the Iowa State 247 Sports contributor.

The Cyclones were able to end Kansas’ eight-game winning streak. Iowa State is now 22-3 on the season.

The Cyclones shot poorly to start the game against Kansas on Saturday. Iowa State made just one of its first 10 attempts. Despite that rough start, the Cyclones used a strong defense to stay in it early.

Iowa State was then able to put their foot on the gas and start blocking the Jayhawks through their offense.

“So we knew coming into this game how good Kansas was, how well coached they are. Great players and a great program they have and how well they’re playing. And we knew we were going to have to be our absolute best and our guys are really, their preparation for this was at a high level and it showed for us,” added Otzelberger. “So there’s not a program or a coach that I have more respect for in the success they’ve had over time. And we know how intentional we have to be in preparation. So I thought our guys being so focused was really good.”

Iowa State basketball remains undefeated at home this year. Iowa State next plays against Houston on Monday, again at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones are now 9-3 in the Big 12 this season.
