What JJ Redick had to say about LA’s firing of Joey and Jesse Bass

on Thursday, Los Angeles Lakers experienced a major upheaval as an organization. As part of selling the franchise to new owner Mark Walter, the Lakers decided to clean house. Part of the main changes they introduced are the firings of Joey and Jesse Bussthe sons of the famous previous owner of the Lakers, the late Jerry Bass. According to reports, “much of the scouting staff has also been dismissed.”

It is not entirely clear where the Lakers go from here. But what is certain – this marks the beginning of a changing of the guard in the organization. While Jeanie Buss remains as team governor, the exodus of other Buss siblings continues. Joey and Jesse join Jim Buss as those no longer involved with the organization.

Head coach JJ Redick he was asked during his press conference Thursday during Lakers practice what was he thinking about this development within the franchise.

“I found out this morning that it’s going to happen. But I don’t have any comment on personnel decisions as it relates to the organization,” Redick said, per Khoba Price of the So Cal News Group.

Redick isn’t necessarily involved in front office decision-making, so the Lakers head coach isn’t exactly in a position to share valuable insights into the team’s thought process.

Redick’s only focus will be helping the Lakers win basketball games, and he’s doing a good job of that right now. LA currently sits in fourth place in the West at 11-4.

The The Lakers were without LeBron James for the first 14 games of the 2025-26 season, and yet they were already so good. They’ve kept pace with other great teams in the West, and that’s thanks in large part to the incredible play of Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves, as well as Redick’s astute coaching.

The Lakers will have a longer rest over the weekend. They last played on Tuesday, defeating the Utah Jazz 140-125, and will next take the court on Sunday in a rematch against the Jazz.
