Why Miami won’t ‘cement’ the lineup with a fully healthy lineup
MIAMI – With The Miami Heat are getting key upgrades for the NBA Cup on Wednesday game against the Milwaukee Bucks and beyond, the team must now consider what the starting lineup will look like. As Heat star Tyler Hero made his season debut on Mondayhe is one of the many who have returned healthy, giving the head coach Erik Spoelstra scratching your head about how the rotations will turn out.
It’s a good problem, in hindsight, to have an abundance of players who can start for Miami, though there will have to be some changes after Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins were made available for Wednesday. While the ultimate goal is ultimately to win basketball games, the starting lineup is key, and with Game 1 on deck, Spoelstra would admit that won’t be the case. “in cement” in a little while.
“You know you have to manage a lot of things in the locker room, we have a locker room that really enjoys competing and enjoying each other,” Spoelstra said. “We also have an extremely ambitious locker room, and I respect that, I respect that. You know, we have to make decisions about playing time, but the bottom line is winning, and we’ve got 19 games and we haven’t had a chance to complete our roster. And that’s why I think it’s an exciting night, you know we’re going to start our process.”

There’s no denying that Spoelstra will have to make key decisions not only to craft the perfect starting lineup, but also to craft an effective second unit and bench.
Erik Spoelstra has decisions to make regarding returning players

While it is The Heat launched their new offense and they succeeded with their early return, there have been many among fans who have different ideas about who to start. Hero and Bam Adebayo are set to be the starters, along with the returning Powell, who has led the team with over 25 points per game so far.
Wiggins feels like a lock, serving as a perfect complement to the players just mentioned while also being an effective two-way winger, but what about Davion Mitchell and Kel’el Ware? The two have been outstanding this season, with Mitchell leading the league in assists and turnovers, plus giving the team elite defense against opposing guards.
But how does a bench Ware, who is on an impressive streak, posting double-doubles in seven of his last eight games, impress a team in the second year of his NBA career after an up-and-down start? Spoelstra will likely experiment in the upcoming games to see what works and what sticks.
“I don’t feel the pressure, you know, to succeed in the cement, whether it’s the starting lineup or the rotation when we get on the bench,” Spoelstra said before Wednesday’s game against the Bucks. “I’ve said it since the first day of training camp that we feel our depth is one of our best assets, and we want to use that as a weapon. To weaponize it, you’ve got to use it, and we’ll figure it out; it doesn’t have to be decided tonight.”
Either way, Miami is 12-6 heading into Wednesday’s NBA Bowl, as it remains to be seen what the team’s starting lineup and bench rotations will look like.
