Against the Suns, the Warriors remain undefeated at home

Stephen CurryAfter Devin Booker (38 points) and Grayson Allen (16 points), the Suns are holding on despite a good start to the match against Golden State (17-15). Brandin Podziemski (13 points), Moses Moody (24 points on 5/8 3-pointers), Buddy Hield (12 points) and Trace Jackson-Davis, however, sparked a 16-4 run for the Warriors by the end of the first quarter (33-19).

After their 7/11 three-pointers during the first twelve minutes, Steve Kerr’s men continued with 6/13 during the second period. Buddy Hield and Moses Moody are on fire and the gap quickly reaches 25 units (60-35). Only Booker manages to limit the damage for the Suns in a one-sided first half (68-49).

The Warriors start the second half with Stephen Curry’s fifth three-pointer and confirm the trend from the first half (73-49). Golden State, however, is shooting itself in the foot. After just five turnovers so far, they’ve lost three straight and allowed Ryan Dunn, Royce O’Neal and Mark Williams (16 points, 16 rebounds) to revive Phoenix (73-57).

Kari puts everyone to bed!

Steve Kerr’s timeout gets the Warriors back on track. The defense regains its intensity as Stephen Curry continues his festival (86-63). The two-time MVP, however, had to come out for a breather and with Jimmy Butler in the locker room at halftime with back pain, Devin Booker took advantage of the opportunity to get Phoenix back into the game. He scores 14 points in a span of four minutes, and the Suns end the third quarter with a 20-6 lead and cool the Chase Center (92-83)!

With Stephen Curry and Draymond Green back on the court, the Warriors are moving forward. Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski stand out and 15-3 puts the Suns back in the wall (107-88). Devin Booker is not giving up. He started a 13-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Grayson Allen, to put Phoenix under ten points (110-101). As a boss, however, Stephen Curry gets the job done.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

– The Golden State bench is waking up. After the first seven games of the season, Steve Kerr’s bench was 25th in scoring (32.5 points per game) and 20th in shooting percentage. Tonight, after one half, the substitutes already had 41 points, or 60% of their team’s points, thanks in particular to the duo of Buddy Hield and Moses Moody. They finished the game with 63 points. More than the address, it’s the energy and intensity brought by Golden State’s alternates that have completely changed from recent games.

– Warriors find their base. Two losses in Indiana and Milwaukee last week brought the Warriors back down to earth after a great start to the season. On this night, they found their playing identity. Everything started from the defense, with the ubiquitous Draymond Green, and the offense did the rest. 33 assists on 38 made baskets, 50% success, 45% on 3-pointers. Pure enjoyment despite the less controlled second half.

– Devin Booker, too lonely. The Suns star was alone against everyone for a long time last night. It was he who saved the furniture in the first half, before scoring 17 of his 38 points in the third quarter to give the Suns a chance. Despite aggressive defense from Jonathan Cumminga and Moses Moody, Devin Booker showed patience in finding his mid-range shot. Once they are done, the Suns will undoubtedly not be easy to play with Devin Booker at the helm.
