Bones Hyland made Mike Conley and Anthony Edwards forget
To face the Kings, Mike Conley and Anthony Edwards were out. Fortunately for the wolves, Bones Hylandshot in the knee in the first quarter against the Warriors, he was in uniform. Good news for Chris Finch, especially since the main player previously had a good matchup (14 units) against Phoenix.
The former Denver football player thus earned his first start of the season against the Kings. He took full advantage of that with his best game of the season: 18 points on 6/10 shooting and 5 assists.
“He’s got a lot of talent, he’s very intelligent. He’s really a passer who can score, not a shooter who can pass.”, describes the Minnesota coach. “He gives us the mentality of a playmaker, who is quick and can make shots. He was very good.”
Bones Highland emphasized the rhythm he wanted to bring in transition or find Donte DiVincenzo on 3-pointers. “Everybody wants to dunk or make threes. I kept pushing. If I have the ball, they have to run. I got into a rhythm and either found my teammates or gave myself opportunities.”says the one who scored 9 points in the last quarter, to make a difference and win.
Known for his offensive qualities, the ability to score many goals in a short time, which he did very well at the start of his career in Colorado, how does the playmaker view his coach’s analysis, the idea that he would be primarily a passer?
“I’m very versatile. I can do both. It really depends on the needs of the team,” he answers. “I’m an underrated passer and we don’t emphasize that enough. It’s cool. I believe, like the coach, in my qualities.”
