Draymond Green scoffs at reports the Knicks were upset about Mike Brown’s hug

He latest episode his eponymous podcast, Draymond Green influenced the controversy around his hug from New York Knicks coach Mike Brown following the Warriors’ 126-113 win on Jan. 15. The Knicks have struggled over the last few games, going 3-8 in their last 11 games.
According to Ramona Shelburne, the hug was not well received in the Knicks organization. Green was also assessed a flagrant foul for tripping Karl Anthony-Towns.
“From what I understand, this hug didn’t go down well with a lot of people over there in New York… although you can understand, even though he might have something to do with Draymond Green, I don’t think it went over well, especially not in the middle of a losing streak…”
Green hit back at the controversy surrounding his hug with Brown and detailed what really happened.
“He didn’t hug me back, I hugged him and moved on. But if these guys are going to try to point it out and say, man, that’s why we’re 2-8 in January. Number one, that was one of the last games they played in January, so I think that game actually made them 2-7 in January. So what about the other five losses? Was that too much for a point or was it something easy for people to hug? Say, it’s this, and don’t face the real problems I’ve been telling you players about for years.
Before Brown was the Knicks coach, he was longtime assistant of the Golden State Warriorsnotably on the Warriors’ three championship teams in 2017, 2018, and 2022. Green maintained a close relationship with Brown during that time, and the Warriors also faced Brown’s Sacramento Kings team in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.
In the podcast episode, Green claims that the bond they forged during their championship journey led to the moment and hit the Knicks, who haven’t won an NBA championship since 1973.
“And if those guys ever have a chance to win a championship, they’re going to realize those relationships are affected differently because you’ve been through some s—t to come out on top on the other side. Those relationships don’t really fade.”
